GIANTS A LIKELY DESTINATION FOR BART SCOTT IF RELEASED BY JETS
"If the New York
Jets ultimately decide to release linebacker Bart
Scott, it's possible the longest trip he'll have to make is right down the
hall into the New York
Giants locker room.
Jets linebacker Bart
Scott celebrates with Jets fans after the team defeated the New England
Patriots in the AFC division playoff game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro,
Massachusetts on January 16, 2011. The Jets defeated the Patriots 28-21.
Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated reports that if Scott were to hit the open market, Big Blue
would immediately be in hot pursuit.
"Word from the combine: if the Jets cut Bart
Scott he could end up changing locker rooms and playing for the Giants,"
Let the wild rumors of the NFL offseason commence!
With a guaranteed $4.2 million salary, the chances the Jets release Scott are
slim to none. However, in the event that the 31-year-old is cut loose, the
Giants are known to "investigate everything" and may still need a starting
middle linebacker depending on what they decide to do with Chase Blackburn (UFA)
and Jonathan Goff (UFA), who is recovering from a torn ACL.
From a personality standpoint, Scott doesn't exactly seem like a fit for the
Giants. He's known to be a little off-the-wall at times, having gone as far as
to flip off the media (among other things). That said, he is a high motor guy
who still has some gas left in the tank and could potentially bring value to the
middle linebacker spot.
Scott had elbow surgery earlier this month, but the procedure was said to be minor."
