If you have netflix instant or whatever they call it, I watch through the Wii. The TV series is available there, you should check it out, very goof imo.

Another good show you could watch that way is Firefly.
actually I respect AG quite a bit and his endorsement is enough for me to try to give it a whirl, maybe the timing was wrong I don't know.

I'm in a "place" these days where I am a little more willing to experiment so...
I've only seen a couple episodes of the original BSG so it was easier for me to accept the new gender role changes. I do find it a bit off though for Starbuck to be a female.

If you happen to give the new BSG a chance, it is extremely well done. SyFy is scrambling to figure out what to do because that was their bread and butter for so many years.

They tried with a soap opera (Caprica) and that failed. Now they are trying to do an Adama series and I feel that will fail too...

It's too hard to explain how well everything meshed in the new BSG. The best way I can explain it is that the entire series felt like one big poem....

It is a "beautiful" series.......and I don't throw that around very easily. I will not even tell you anything that I liked about it because every scene is that important and I don't want to ruin anything....

All I can say is that if you give it a chance, and immerse yourself into it, it will be one of your favorite series ever made....

Now if I'm right, and it does become one of your all time favorites, this is way too important to miss out on!!!

I envy you now because you don't know what you're about to get yourself into......

Geez, AG, they needed you to promote the show. I didn't watch almost strictly because I thought it was BS to make Starbuck a woman... and if they were going to do that, I probably wouldn't end up enjoying it... so I only ever watched the first show.

Now I just might give it a go.

I'm not entirely sure what was the thought process with changing gender roles. It's a long series and if you guys watch it on blu-ray, you're lucky because you can watch 3-4 hours in one shot every weekend and get your fix and avoid commercials.

I'm not saying it's the best thing since sliced bread, but if you look back at the last 10 years of Sci-Fi series, there aren't many that stand out....

Some of the space fight scenes were glorious.....
Well this is a PUBLIC forum so I am going to PUBLICALLY apologize:

    I went ahead and picked up the re-packaged Complete Series of BSG (Silver box with principal characters scrolled around 3/4 of the packaging) and;

    holy frak !!!

I will not SPOIL a thing but me and the Missus watched the 2-part Pilot mini-movies...(prior to episode 33)

Honestly Boomer and Tigh not being black is still a bit to adjust too but I did. Starbuck a female is slowly setting in, I liked Dirk Benedict AKA Face from A-Team.

BUT as a whole Zim, oh my goodness.

in just two mini-movies, about 3.5 hours you are caught up in the drama, which is well-acted, and the suspense of the revamped cylons which borrow a few "elements" from the Terminator lore. []

If you have Netflix Zim or can rent or just outright buy, I suggest the Complete Series.

The Silver Box Blu-Ray edition I own also threw in the Razor 2-parter in chronological order as well as The Plan mini-movie which apparently alot of true BSG fans disliked...

    post edit:
perhaps I am turning "old-fashioned" but one thing that me and the wife did not care for was in fact the "sex scenes" which seemed a bit like Skinimax or soft-porn...artistic integrity understood but not everything need be shown all the time.

And YES I understand that (character A) uses [her/his/it's] "abilities" to fleece information and otherwise manipulate [character B]. Cleopatra and Mark Anthony style?

However, the human imagination is quite powerful...so I did FF through most of those bits.

OK, GY, I'll give it a try. My son has the whole thing, so I'll borrow it from him. He loved it, like AG, but I never believed him when he said I'd like it.

like I said, aside from a few smutty moments the story is pretty intriguing. You'll definitely be using the noodle as you try to figure out who is who and what is what.

space combat is similar to WWII style dogfights including the capital ships broadsiding each other which I really liked.

    AG:
you said you only saw a few episodes of the original BSG? I saw just about everyone as a kid and I remember the disco music and some of the campy things of the time and despite that you must understand that is/was a large part of my misgivings with the redux.

I imagine this to be similar to Star Trek the Original Series (Kirk) to The Next Generation (Picard)...which I saw a some of the Original and TNG but didn't really like TNG til avout season 4 or 5 and then Deep Space 9 and Voyager to a degree.

    Funny story about ST Voyager.
me and my buddies used to watch it right?
well Tuvok was me, my boy Al was Ensign Kim (cause they both are Korean), the two (paternal/maternal) brothers were Neelix and Paris...good times *sigh*

I missed out on that series. I'm not sure if you are joking or not but I think I heard this was actually a good series. Then there was a spinoff series as well right? Usually when there's a spinoff, the original was pretty good.... X-Files was another classic series....

Not kidding. The spin off was garbage IMO. But Buffy is available on Netflix too, definately worth the watch. A bit dated now as it made a lot of pop culture referances throughout, but still smart funny.

Good going GY!!! It will be hard to put this thing down, you will have many many weekends of watching BSG (if that's when you plan on watching them)....

If you go back 1000 pages or so, you could all see me and JG talking about BSG when it was still airing live....you could even tell back then we were excited about it....

Good thing it's hidden pages back though so nothing gets spoiled.

The new Cylons does borrow from the Terminator world but that is pretty well explained.....

I think comparing the old BSG and new BSG to old and new Star Trek is a good analogy. I did not grow up with the old Star Trek but I have seen many episodes. TNG is still my all time favorite out of all the star trek series....

It does take a little while to get the hang of all the characters, but you'll get there, it's an epic series....lots of characters, very deep.... it's not your traditional series with 4-5 main characters and everyone else are red shirts...

I like series that are smart/clever and references current pop culture......

Everyone is throwing around Netflix around here, I suppose I should jump on the bandwagon and see what all the hoopla is all about? What about Hulu? Does anyone use that?

I've seen a few good shows thanks to that since I am never home.

The Dr. Who new series from BBC and Torchwood. Firefly. Terminator series. Started lost, 1st season was great, turned to garbage in the 2nd and I stopped watching.
