Thread: Bruce Irvin, Sack specialist

    Bruce Irvin, Sack specialist

Depending on what the Giants decide to do with Osi, they could possibly use a true speed rusher opposite of JPP. IMO not only the best speed rusher but pass rusher period in the 2012 draft is Bruce Irvin. The guy has 22.5 sacks over the past two seasons including 14 as a junior. He already possess a nice array of moves relying mainly on his speed/quicknees to press the edge which in turn sets up his inside move. Also despite his size, can bull rush the tackle with some success as well.

Athletically he compares favorably to Von Miller:
Height weight arms hands 40 Bench 3cone 20yard shuttle

    Miller- 6'3" 246 33 1/2 9 1/4 4.53 21 6.70 4.06

    Irvin 6'3" 245 33 3/8 9 5/8 4.50 23 6.70 4.03

Due to his recent arrest, lack of experience in traditional defense, and lack of effectiveness playing the run its entirely possible that he'd be available at 64.If that were to happen I think he would be a must make selection, and one that we as Giant fans would be very excited to have.

Damn, thats an impressive 20-yd shuttle for both miller and irvin. Incredible!

Was a huge fan of irvin's before the season. watched him more closely this year and dont seem overly impressed. hes too fineese, sometimes hes unwilling to even engage with the tackle when he can't get around him on the edge.

But he is mother freaking explosive around that corner, and he has the flexibility to dip thanks to size. I love him as a pass rush specialist.. but really dislike how there is no power to his game at all. Granted, his game is on speed/quickness but at least try to change up and punch lineman's chest with more consistency. Was expecting a big game of his against clemson in their bowl game and he disappointed me.

Had a down year according to standards that was set for him coming into the season but still probably the most explosive edge rusher in the draft which given all the factors considered, is the best trait translatable to NFL success rushing the passer

Redeye, did I ever tell you that you're the man?...Its because of your videos that I now almost consider myself a full fledged NFL scout....You've pretty much single handily made the NFL draft so much more hands on and interactive for us fans to the point where we can actually have informed opinions on who we think our teams should draft ect......just 2-3 years ago we relied entirely too much on hacks like Kiper and Mchsay to tell us who the good prospects were and its because of guys like you and Alo, they have now had to step their game up so as not look so uneducated on the matter.

At the start of the year he was lining up sometimes over the B gap which is nuts for a guy his size. He was getting blown off the ball. Once they went back to using him as a situational from player the production picked up. Irvin would be very good as a 3rd down rusher for the Eagles. They can line him up wide and let him loose at the QB. He would be very tough for a tackle to contain on the edge as a 9 tech.

I mentioned this guy a while ago and was crushed by he boards saying he wasn't a good fit for this D. Said he is a 3-4 outside guy. I think his numbers show that he could easily play outside on a 4-3. I like to see his numbers against Sintims.
