Excerpt: "Steve Weatherford's NFL career started in New Orleans in the spring of 2006, less than a year after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area, leaving a long-lasting recovery and rebuilding effort.
When Weatherford, now the Giants punter, visited the Jersey Shore on a Hurricane Sandy relief trip Tuesday, many of the images he saw reminded him of the Katrina aftermath in Louisiana.
"It was really sad. It was a flashback to that," Weatherford said. "You see a lot of pain and suffering. When you leave, you feel better about helping the people, but at the same time, when you are actually there, it’s really depressing, because all you see is pain and suffering. You see the little kids smiling for the 15 minutes that you're there, but once you leave, you know that they have nothing to go back to."
