My understanding is that the drop kick has been dropped. It's no longer legal. But I can't remember when and where I saw that tidbit of information.
I've never seen it in a football game. Rugby its done, but its still pretty uncommon. You have too many defenders on you for it to be effective often so you need to create space between you and your opposition before even attempting. Otherwise you get a blocked kick and then a possible return for a score by them. It's a beautiful play when it does work though and an easy 3 points if done at the right time against a good tackling defense.
does anyone know whether it is legal to put a ball back in play after a safety by drop kicking it, I know you have the right to kick it or throw it or punt it, not sure if you can drop kick it...
Yes it is still legal. Per NFL rulebook.
Not being a smart az I did google NFL rule book and followed the link.
I actually had saved a copy on my hard drive but have lost it.
Yes it can be used as a field goal attempt.
It MUST be attempted from behind the LOS or from the spot of a fair catch.
Last one was Flutie for an extra point as so many have pointed out.
It has not been attempted in I dont know how long for a field goal.
