Hybrid Players Remain Key To Success For Giants' Defense

    http://www.giants101.com/2012/12/02/...iants-defense/

Excerpt: "Some fans may not even know that infamous New York Giants middle linebacker Harry Carson didn’t start out in that position. He was drafted in 1976 as a defensive end out of South Carolina State, but then-linebackers coach, Marty Schottenheimer, saw something else.

Using players for more than one skill position isn’t new to blue. Frank Giffordplayed on both offensive and defensive sides of the ball and is probably the most notable to Giants history buffs. Old school coaches around the league still live by this rule of versatility – because it works. Many current and former Giants players can tell stories of how they didn’t get quality playing time because they lacked special teams proficiency. Tom Coughlin is of that breed." Read more...

This is an undertold story. This approach by JR, TC and the staff allows us great flexibility and makes us tougher to prepare for on game days.
No one remembers who came in second.

It really has been something to watch evolve. It allows for the 3 and 4 safety schemes that seem to work very well.

it really helps when injuries occur which is a given in this sport. We have guys that can step right in and we seem to do fine.

I know there was a season or two where a lot of people were down on Kiwi. But he's done a great job the this season and last. He brings his A game every week, at both of his positions. Glad we have a player like that.
