Re: How desperate have we americans become?

American's don't know what poor is. The poorest of poor (aside from the homeless) have a car, a TV, and most likely a computer in the house.
Thats an unfair observation. People are GOING poor now. There's a big effing difference. People who were making ends meet are now unable to support themselves and god forbid they have a family, all because of nothing they can themselves control. They didn't singlehandedly cause a recession. And is going back to school an option? Not when college costs more than 6months salary! What a joke.
damn i wann work were you work, 6 months salary for me is around 20K, and i don't think you will get a full education from a good college for that little. i would say a full education would cost more than a few years salary.

Just recently my buddy came back with his reserve unit from Iraq. Anyway, he needs a job since the company he used to work for went out of business. So, he goes to UPS where he worked back in 92. He worked on the sort isle and made 9.50 an hour part time- 25hr week. He goes back (since he left on good terms) and is offered the SAME job (since he had two years experience) at the SAME rate he made in 1992! 9.50 an hour is all they are paying for the exact same job 16 years later!!!!!! can you believe that crap? I can't. I guess since I am doing alright I don't think about the rest of the world sometimes. That's just HOSED IMO.

    Thoughts?

man, i got laid off 6months ago, and now can't get a job, because every place is doing a cori and criminal background check, and i mean everywhere. I realize i put myself in the perdicement, but i'm 27yr's old now, and when i did what i did, i was 19yrs old, and only trouble ever been in, although felony status. I totally made a mistake, and have been outstanding citizen before and after one stupid young moronic evening, and i have to pay for it forever it feels like. If the econemy wasen't so twisted, i'd never been laid off, and would still be detailing cars, which i have been doing at the same place since i came home, so for about 7and a half yr's, but my boss, isn't doing well with things, and i was a casulty along with a guy who has been there a little longer than me, it stinks, and it feels like i'll never get another job. Wow, i feel alittle better...lol

Id love 9.50/hr right now, Ive been unemployed since thanksgiving when my seasonal job was finished for the season. Luckly I go back to work this month but I tell ya, it's pretty much awful out there.

It's only going to get worse to.

On another note, politics should never be discussed because an arguement always errupts so to stop myself Im not posting on this thread anymore.
dude, i'm sorry for saying this, but it selfishly makes me feel better to know i'm not just being singled out or something, even though you know stuffs going on everywhere, it is still hard to get it through your head, and sometimes that can result in depression.

It's tougher than ever. Two years ago my rug business produced 125k in a 30 hr week. The business dropped 30% in late 07 and 40% overall in 08. So, I partnered with a friend doing marketing for the nations leading credit repair company.....AND... I do session and weekend workas a drummer/vocalist. What's funny is that it almost doesn't matter how good you are in the business. It's WHO thinks you are marketable. How do you market a 42 year old drummer/vocalist? You don't really. You book him gigs in Vegas that pay Juuuust enough to keep him interested. So I have to work hard at making connections. I don't mind the hard work. Connections with people that can get you into the casinos on a regular basis. They are the ones who can always afford to pay. People will always gamble, no matter what the economy.

Not that anyone probably cares, but I went from that 30 hr wk at 125k to 50 three years later and having to get into credit repair, session work to bring me up to where I was 3 years ago. The difference is that I work about 50hrs a week now. No, I'm not crying, but I am ticked off that WE the people let this happen. I'm mad at myself. I'm mad at ignorance. I'm upset with complacency and laziness and lowered standards, mediocrity and most of all in collective social apathy. CSA I call it. In the meantime I get myself educated as much as possible. I am establsihing corporate credit and slowly learning commercial real estate so I can try to put some money away for my childrens future. I have no doubt I will do it, but most americans, sadly are having an extremely HARD time. You can only be squeezed so much, until there is just no juice left. Something has to give. Something. If it doesn't, I think we may see another civil war or some uprising. I don't think a revolt is out of the question.People are tired.
