Ever since Michael Jordan retired — all three times, really — the NBA
has searched for the heir to his throne. Many players have popped up as
pretenders to the throne, from Harold Miner to Jerry Stackhouse to
Vince Carter. In recent years, people have stopped trying to find a
clone and just searched for a similarly dominant great player. If you
ever wondered why LeBron James is seen as such a failure, a lot of it
has to do with his inability to meet the example set by Jordan.</p>


There are many great players in the NBA these days, most of whom have
never been directly compared to Jordan. Nevertheless, His Airness says
only one player comes close enough to his greatness to merit the
comparison. Not surprisingly, that player is Kobe Bryant. Here's what
Roland Lazenby, a great writer currently working on a Jordan book, tweeted on Sunday (via PBT):<span id="more-13283"></span></p>

Of course, if the notoriously petty Jordan was going to mention
anyone, it makes that he'd single out Kobe, and not just because he'd
consider the mimicry flattering. Bryant really does work harder than
everyone else, and he's been good for long enough (with no signs of
slowing down) that he may eventually top Jordan's longevity. They're
similarly insane competitors.</p>

Wednesday that Peyton Manning "will not push back" his $28 million
roster bonus and will either stay with the Colts or be released by the
Colts.</p>

Irsay isn't going to trade Manning, and Manning won't restructure his
contract to allow the Colts to get something in return. The $28 million
bonus is due on March 8. Irsay is staunch in his commitment to pay

clearance from neck surgery in order to see the money.

I read that article yesterday, and i was like "meh...who cares" until I got to the part that said:

I'm willing to bet Colts change their tune and Manning stays. I'm sure he wants to stay anyway.

Here's the thing that bugs me:
If the Colts were to cut ties with Peyton for whatever their reasoning is, they are basically saying "Winning isn't our #1 priority right now. Saving money and rebuilding is."
And that's just not ok.

Same thing goes for Norv Turner not being fired from San Diego. That team is basically telling their fan base "Mediocrity is ok in our playbook"

I'm willing to bet Colts change their tune and Manning stays. I'm sure he wants to stay anyway.

I disagree about Peyton. Colts stance is clear. If he is healthy to play they will keep him, if not they won't. IF hes not going to be able to play and play at his level, then you can't have a player on your team for 2 years, pay him over 50mil and not get production out of him
