[/quote]It will just motivate JPP to work even harder and do more with the opportunities that he gets. That's how I would feel. Barring injury, JPP will own the DE position in no time.

Chevy to discontinue Trailblazer due to fuel inefficiency. That's bull****. I'm pissed.

The prevailing thought from the pundits is that Chevy will copy the
GMC Acadia as a replacement for the TrailBlazer. It's built on the
Lamda platform (unitized chassis), a FWD/AWD configuration. The engine
is transverse mounted. The 3.6 liter VVT V-6 is the powerplant. The
I-6 is out of the question for the transverse orientation. If the
TrailBlazer is axed, I sense the I-6 will fade away as well (too bad).
GM has already announced enhancements for the I-4 and I-5 versions of
the Atlas truck engines. Therefore, the I-6 seems to be moving off the
screen. However, on paper, the 3.6 V-6 is a compelling engine. With
dual overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, forged crank, 60 degree banks
(no reworking of a 90 degree V-8 with splayed crank), direct fuel
injection, and true dual exhausts, there is 300 HP potential. It is one
of GM's globally designed engines and is mated to a six speed
transaxle.

In June, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy and Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora got into a Twitter fight. Former Giants receiver Steve Smith jumped in, pointing out that the Eagles trophy case looks like Mother Hubbard’s cupboard.

So, when it comes to Steve Smith, LeSean McCoy still may be inclined to mutter a different phrase that starts with “muther.”

Smith had said he plans to seek out McCoy, to give him a hug, and to
attribute the ugliness to “Twitter beef.” So how did it go?

That’s going to take a little time,”
Smith said Monday, via PhillySportsDaily.com. “[McCoy] wasn’t the
happiest. He said he meant what he said, so it’s all good.”

Apparently, it’s not all good. And thus it could be getting good.

Maurice Jones-Drew practiced fully for the first time in camp this weekend, and said he felt absolutely no pain afterwards.

That’s great news for the Jaguars and all the fantasy owners out
there getting MJD at a discount this year. Jones-Drew, who hosts his own
fantasy show with our friend Mike Dempsey on SiriusXM, isn’t happy with his preseason ranking.

“Pretty much every reporter, ‘Will he be back, is it possible to come
back and do what he’s done?’” Jones-Drew told reporters Monday. “A lot
of fantasy football gurus who have never stepped on the field before or
ever been in the locker room, they know the best aboutfootball.”

Well, he has a point about getting no love. Jones’ serious knee surgeryknocked down his ranking
into the second round of Rotoworld’s online draft guide for the first
time in years. Silva wants no part of him, but I’ll still take him as a
top-10 pick with a healthy preseason.

So far, so good on that front.

“This year, there is no pain. It’s just going out there and playing
like I’d been playing the first couple of years withoutit,” Jones-Drew
said.

The Jaguars have said they want to get backup Rashad Jennings more involved this year to save Jones-Drew, which makes sense. MJD warns that his knee problems have been overstated.

“I guess you could pretty much say they got me a new knee on eBay, which is pretty cool,” he said.

Re: THEE SWAG THREAD

I have always loved Peter King:

I think it'd be ridiculous to dismiss the Giants' inactivity in free
agency, while their main rivals down the Jersey turnpike in
Philadelphia have stocked up. At the same time, I think GM Jerry Reese
has built up enough currency with the job he's done over the past four
seasons to see how this season plays out before throwing him out the
door.

What's Reese's biggest crime? Not bringing wide
receiver Steve Smith back? Let's see how Smith plays. For those who
aren't familiar with the surgery Smith had, microfracture surgery on his
left knee, this is not a garden-variety ACL repair. When a player has
microfracture surgery, it involves trying to regenerate blood flow and
cartilage growth in knees, poking holes into bones to stimulate blood
flow.

This is not a simple surgery, although by all
indications Smith's procedure was not as serious as some. He is feeling
good, from what he says, and will be able to run without restriction
sometime soon. But how long will the freedom of movement last? He might
be back to his old self, he might not. We'll see.

My point
is, when a player has microfracture surgery, it is an illustration of
severe dissolution of cartilage in a knee. And that is not good. Think
back on Reese's tenure. In 2007, his rookie year, every player he
drafted played in the playoffs for a Giant team that won the Super Bowl.
The Giants have won one more Super Bowl than the Colts, Patriots,
Eagles and Cowboys since he took office. Again, I'm not saying you
should build a statue for the guy. I'm saying you should let the season
take shape and see if the defensive front and running game he's helped
build can lift the Giants into the playoffs and beyond. Nothing's won on
Aug. 15.
