"There are a lot of ways to get around this, but clearly
re-doing the contract is the first step," said Lombardi, a former NFL
GM. Manning's $28 million option is due right around the start of the
new league year, so the Colts will need quick cooperation from both
Peyton and another team in order to pull this off, particularly if
Manning won't delay the payment. Lombardi suspects the Colts will try
to trade him out of the conference to an NFC team, suggesting the
Redskins. "Lot of money, lot of availability," said Lombardi. "And oh,
by the way, they really need a quarterback badly. They need a
signature face on their franchise."

It would be terrible if he went to the Skins. But it would be cool to watch the bros play twice a year.

Trading for Peyton isn't like trading for any other QB. With him comes his own offensive scheme. He wouldn't be the type to adapt to another since he is practically the OC in Indy when he's on the field.

I say he retires as a Colt, even if they draft Luck. In my view they would be better off trading the pick, drafting a QB in the 2nd or 3rd and draft the kid from LSU. Their defense is a nightmare.

yea, but MH...we're not talking about Brett Favre...or Kurt Warner....we're talking about PEYTON MANNING(6'5", 230 lbs...laser rocket arm), who showed NO SIGNS of slowing down his HOF pace at all last season.
I find it hard to believe the Colts are even considering cutting ties. It's not Peyton's fault that they had no backup plan, and that they dont know how to play defense....
I just assume this team toughs it out and improves their defense while keeping Peyton as the beast that he is...there's no reason to do otherwise imo.

Matt would.

Meaning if he's not healthy?
i dont know man....I think alot of teams would still be trying to get him if they knew he might only be out a month or 2.
What reason is there to believe he won't be ready to go next season??

This is a neck injury with nerve damage. If he's not back near 100% by mini camps there is every reason to think he'll never be.

So if he can show that he's back, the Colts will keep him. If he's still not back, I doubt any team will give up much for him.

Musgrave noted that Ponder "didn't look good"
walking around on Wednesday. Previous indications suggested Ponder would
