    When i was in Normandy 2 years ago, they told us of a glaring error in the film.
    The barricades in the water at Omaha that look like ramps where placed backwards in the film. They had them set up so the ramps would raise up towards the sea. When in fact the are supposed to raise up facing the shore. This is so the boats would slide up those ramps and capsize.
    It is actually a pretty silly mistake since Speilberg was so driven by historical accuracy in that film.

    I always thought they put a mine on the end of them in case we attacked during high tide...good to know.

    What surprised me the most was how deep the beach was. Hundreds and hundreds of yards. I think they told us it was about 1/4 mile.
