    You can't be serious.

Kurri was a one dimensional player. A very good player without a doubt. But to say that Messier was "overshadowed" by Jari Kurri, along with your claim that it was "Gretzky's and Kurri's team", is nonsense.
Mark Messier was a superstar in the NHL long before he became a Ranger.
I have to apply the same theory to the old argument we had with Kase about Crosby being the most popular

I barely follow hockey at all and definitely could give a **** about the history of it.

I always heard Messiah and Gretzky, never even knew the name Kurri.

I did know Paul Coffey though

When Gretsky left, Messier was the undisputed leader of that team. It simply was Mark Messier's team.
I don't know how old you are or how old your were then, but you are so wrong about Messier its ridiculous.

When Messier was traded to the Rangers it was huge because one of the truly great players in the league was traded.

I think your both being a little extreme

I think his point was popularity wise, he def peaked once he came to NY

but while it was all about Gretzky and Messiah in Edmonton, Messiah was probably over shadowed. Jordan-Pippen wise

peaked in NY popularity sure....if you were an NHL fan, you KNEW who Messier was. NYers are just ******ed usually lol.

The Pippen reference is a great one, because Pippen was probably the best SF of the past 50 years because he was so ridiculously dynamic. But you just associate him with Jordan's Bulls.....so yea, I can see how fans would think that of Messier I guess...
