That player played 9 seasons in the mid 70's
He is known for making two amazing catches in the Super Bowl.
And was part of a dynasty.
That player is Lynn Swann.. Pedestrian numbers, some players now accumulate those stats in 4-5 seasons. Different game of course back than.

Giants fan since the early 80s

Lynn Swann was great. One of the top 2 or 3 WR's of that era.

Lets not forget its a passing friendly league now....not then.

Do voters think stats matter more now, or whether or not the player's team wins more because of them?

Football is different than baseball. Baseball is a game of numbers. Football is a team game and numbers are secondary.
That's why it drives me nuts when posters say that if Eli plays X amount more years and has X more yards and TD's......he'll be in the Hall.
Football is more about the eyeball test. Either a guy is great or he's not. And numbers, while sometimes part of the equation, don't change that essential fact.

While we know how good Banks was (and a good MSU guys as well) he just was overshadowed by LT. Is he good enough? Absolutely. But voters are interested in pass rushers at the OLB position. Too bad. Blame LT for that as well.
Used to be that guys like Jack Hamm got in. Now guys like that have a tougher time.
