True, but it happens on both side of the aisle. Poor, uninformed rednecks have been voting against their own self interest for years.
Well I vote against my self interest, but I do by choice.
Not to sound all noble..but I vote for what I think is best for my country.
I don't want my kids to have to pay for my life. Nor do I want them saddled with burdensome debt and economic stagnation.

But the fundamental question is this.....Should the federal government (by that I mean the taxpayers) be in the business of giving money to those who DON'T NEED IT?. This is fundamental to our fiscal future. The answer has to be NO. We should have a safety net is SS, not a retirement account.
You have my vote. Unfortunately I doubt the electorate will have you.
For your information. My wife and I, according to our most recent statement, will be getting about $4200.00 per month. Its a nice suppliment to our income. But we don't NEED it to survive.
The entire point of SS was to provide a safety net for retired people who can no longer work. THAT is certainly in the interest of the tax payers. But to supplement my income so Sandi and I can spend winters in South Florida?...Not so much.
I agree, I'd forego collecting mine as well. Unfortunately I think that puts us in a distinct minority. Most people will say, "you get yours so I'm getting mine....whether I need it or not"
It's less about fiscal policy than it is about human behavior, which pretty much makes all things next to impossible....
