    Defensive Cuts

Boley was the brains behind our defense who lost a step.
Canty is a large paycheck who couldn't elevate our lowly D-line.
Webster is old and sucks and everyone wants him cut.
    Tuck quit.
    Osi wants too much.

...yet our defensive coordinator who had us ranked 27th last year and 31st this year is getting a free pass. Why didn't he bench Webster? Why couldn't he motivate Tuck? Why did he sit Boley who was arguably our best defensive player?

Fewell came to the Giants with the expectation our pass ruch would remain great and he could fix our secondary. How, with high paid safeties and CBs, we have an awful secondary and now our pass rush has disappeared.

Why aren't we looking for a new defensive coordinator???

to me, the D was always lost out there.... they were times they didnt know what they were doing... guys in the endzone shrugging their shoulders asthe opposing receiver either scored a TD or converted 3rd n 30 for the fifith time of the day. Tats what lost us this season... our d couldnt force a punt. couldnt stop anyone on 3rd n long.

The problem is teams figured out how to keep the Giants D in check. They ran the ball knowing the Giants are built to rush the passer. That is why our pass rush suffered last year cause QB's didnt hold on to the ball. They used quick check down passes and ran the ball and then would bomb it out randomly. Our D was always on its heels cause of their inability to stop the run. You can blame Fewell or whoever but as a Giants fan you had to know the league would figure out how to stop the Giants D. Our Run D was very suspect two years ago but the D played great come playoff time. This year though the Giants D got exposed!!!! They could NOT do anything to teams who could run the ball successfully. The formula became if you can run the ball on the Giants you can beat the Giants.

What annoys me is the coaching staff should have found ways to counter what opponents were doing. At least by mid season, if an opposing team wants to do short drop backs and quick passes then counter that with bump and run. It seemed the Giants staff was stuck with what got them the sack numbers the season before they didn't adapt to what opponents were doing to them.

In other words, Fewell was content keeping his CBs playing off the WR in zone coverage hoping to prevent the big play while teams were content completing easy 10 to 15 yard passes. Fewell has made our secondary worse since being here.

Bench Webster? The only other corner who was built to play outside numbers was Coe, and he got injured. Tryon and Hosley did not look good out there.

That's what FA and the draft is for

I think that Spags system fit the Giants players. It brought pressure that made the qbs throw the ball faster than they like. When that took place, the dbs react to it. Yet at the same time, when the Giants played a good offense, scored a good amount of points on them. A lot of defenses don't stop teams from scoring under 17 points. D-linemen rarely get sacks. Say that a D-linemen have 15 sacks. Well does that 15 even come close to the times the qb was able to get the ball off? How many snaps it took to get those sacks. How many hurries and assists he got with those sacks.

You can place blame all you want!!!! Fact is the Giants D was built to Rush the QB and in doing so they didn't build up a stout run defense cause it had become a passing league. Now the Giants have to start drafting to stop the run and for rushing the passer. No matter what you need a BIG run stuffing NT type DT in the middle and Linval Joesph has not been the answer. He is a great DT but he needs another abled BIG body in there with him to stuff the run and take on the double teams. Sean Rodgers isn't the answer while BIG and a veteran he isnt going to add anything other than depth. The Giants have pass rushers by the droves. They need a young BIG NT/DT who is capable of taking on and busting thru double teams and collapsing the pocket and stuffing the runner. This years draft has a few that could fit the bill.

Who would replace Webster? Hosley? Tryon? You're joking, right?

Tuck needs to motivate himself. There's only so much a coach can do in that department.

Boley was pretty bad most of last season. If we was our best defensive player, then we're in big trouble.

Canty was ok, but definitely not worth his salary, especially with the injuries starting to pile on.

Granted, I'm not a big fan of Fewell, but he got his year of grace by helping us win a SB.
