Honestly, there's only one problem with tagging Beatty, and that's the fact that the tag value for Beatty is estimated to be around $9.2M. So we'd be giving up big money on him either way. I'd rather a long term deal be worked out to be completely honest...
The Giants have to find a way to get a long term deal done on Beatty. He's protecting our franchises blind side, and furthermore he's a solid left tackle. If they can't get a deal done then they must resort to franchising him. What other choice do they have? Risk losing him and trying to draft a legitimate left tackle?
The draft is a crap shoot, for every Joe Thomas there is a Tony Mandarich.

Franchise tag would cripple the cap. I'd rather they sign a low buck guy than give Beatty 10 million for one year.

That's the problem with the Franchise Tag, it's a pretty stiff CAP hit. But Beatty has had some injury issues (retina, back) and that might make it easier to sign him to a long term deal.

Yep, can't afford to tag Beatty. It will cost too much towards this years cap. JR needs to get creative and get a deal done that back loads the money.
Beatty needs to be the first priority, like everyone else said. But franchise tags are too big of a cap hit. Get that deal done Reese you IMGRATE!
