NJ Mayors Threaten To Keep Emergency Services And Police From Working Super Bowl

Excerpt: "Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in 2014 is supposed to be historical. It will mark the first time in NFL history that a Super Bowl has been played in a cold weather stadium, and the first hosted at the home of the New York Jetsand New York Giants. Unfortunately, things have gotten off to a rocky start due to concerns over weather, the omission of the NFL Experience and, more recently, some political maneuvering courtesy of a group of New Jersey Mayors.

Michael Copley of The Record reports that a group of mayors from the Meadowlands District have threatened to prevent emergency services and police officers from working the event due, in large part, to lack of payment for previous municipality services unrelated to the Super Bowl itself.

"The stadium has done little to help offset any costs for the surrounding communities when larger events occur at the stadium," Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli said in a press release earlier this week. "With one of [the] world’s largest sporting events coming to the East Rutherford venue, there is little doubt that the mayors will be expecting a call that their services are needed. … The answer will be clear: don’t ask." It's great to see a plan come together

This is one of those threats that's probably a bluff, but they do want to try to raise the point about not getting enough financial support or dues. If they're dumb enough to actually prevent emergency responders and police from working a "NY/NJ" Superbowl, the President would just step in with the national guard and then should have these mayors thrown in jail after the game for trying to endanger the lives of so many people.

It doesn't help that the NFL is trying to promote the idea hard that the super bowl is going to be played in "the greatest city on earth"... As Chris Christie once said when the site was originally announced, "I didn't know that East Rutherford was the greatest city on earth"...

I didn't know New Jersey had an NFL football team and they just lost their NBA team. Hopefully in the distant future, the Giants will play in the city or somehwere in NY like Long Island or Westchester. New Jersey can keep the stinkin Jets.

the State Police take care of the sports complex...doesn't really matter if the local towns help out or not. The fire departments and EMS may be an issue though
