Giants' John Mara Says He Does Not See Tom Coughlin Retiring In The Near Future

    http://www.giants101.com/2013/02/20/...e-near-future/

Excerpt: "New York Giants' head coach Tom Coughlin will be 67 years old by the time next season comes around. Coughlin is a two-time Super Bowl champion, and even if he gave up coaching right now, he would still go down as one of the best head coaches in franchise history. For the last several seasons, Coughlin has avoided directly answering questions regarding his eventual retirement, which has fueled speculation as to when that day may finally arrive.

Although cornerback Terrell Thomas recently stated that he believes 2013 will be Coughlin's swan song, Giants President and CEO John Mara disagrees.

“No, I haven’t had that discussion with him yet,” said Mara. “I don’t see him going to Florida to play shuffleboard any time soon. I think he’s still got a lot of fire left in him and he’s still a great coach. Hopefully he’s going to be around for many more years.”

It's hard to envision Coughlin walking away from football with a sour taste in his mouth. As a man who has achieved so much during his career, it stands to reason that he will decide leave the game on a high note. Coughlin has earned the right to tell the team when his time is up, but it's still very unclear as to when that may occur." Read more...

Just seeing him on the sideline he does not give the impression of a guy looking to retire.

He loves what he's doing, he's good at it, and his boss just gave him control of his own destiny. Pretty good day for TC I'd say.

Dont get me wrong Id love nothing more, but I dont see this happening. The Giants season next year is not gonna be pretty. They have too many holes, and are relying heavily on young talent. I see this as a rebuilding year, and I know thats not what anyone wants to hear. In2 years tho, the Giants could be back on top for sure, with some good drafting and hopefully some luck with some of our other players and there injuries.

I don't think we have so many holes that we can't be in contention. We won't know until we see the final 53, but we haven't even had the draft or FA. Let's see what Reese pulls out of the hat before we dump the season.

It's not just the sidelines; the dude genuinely seems like he is living the dream.

He just said what he thinks. And now John Mara has dispelled a few weeks worth of speculation.
