He should take the deal I just described. He gets a lot of money up front and we get a favorable cap hit.

Condon will tweak the offer, whatever it really is. I would push for a longer term if it were me.

Longer terms favor the team in the NFL. Not the player. Its the guarantee that matters.
Its the opposite of other sports where contracts can't be terminated.

If the guarantee is 50% of the aggregate, give or take. At "$7M" he would get roughly $3M more in guaranteed money. So, if he never sees that last year's salary, for whatever reason, he still pockets more money.

I honestly don't think they are going to be far apart in substance.

Its not a "theory". Its just the way NFL contracts work.

He got a $9MM restructure bonus added to that. he obviously got all or most of his 2013 salary guaranteed.
So both bonuses plus 2012 and 2013 guaranteed salaries get to that $35MM.

Guaranteed money isn't something they pay you if you get cut. Its usually money they have already paid to you. If you do get cut, you can't defer any more of the bonus. The remaining bonus unapplied to the cap gets applied in whole.

Demarcus Ware's deal 10/26/2009: Signed a seven-year, $79 million contract. The deal contains $40 million guaranteed, including a $20 million signing bonus

signing bonus+ year 1 salary =/= guaranteed money lol
