He doesn't have to sign his tender. That's the deadline for other teams to make an offer.

What if he doesn't sign a contract or the tender? Will he play next year?

3rd: Gerald Everett, TE South Alabama
    4th: Dont'a Foreman, RB Texas

    6th: KD Cannon, WR Baylor
    7th: Jalen Reeves-Maybin, LB Tennessee

If he doesn't sign after that point, he basically reverts to an ERFA... Giants would have exclusive rights to him for a year. He would only be "free" to retire.

I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite team in the NFL.

He'll eventually have to sign either his tender or a contract to play in '13. If he does neither and decides to sit out the year, he won't gain an accrued season and will be a RFA again in '14.

It is still a good date to be aware of.

Not really, he can wait until mid-June to sign. April 19th is the last date teams can present offer sheets.

Good question but I doubt it. No contract should = no play. His old contract has expired.

I think it's likely he will sign, but don't be surprised if he doesn't wait until 4/19 to come and go. He can't lose anything by waiting for the last moment for an offer sheet.
