Mike Patterson - ProFootballFocus grades by season

    2012:
    136 snaps
    Run Def.: -1.7
    Pass Rush: +1.2

    2011:
    652 snaps
    Run Def.: -0.2
    Pass Rush: +5.1

    2010:
    602 snaps
    Run Def.: +8.1
    Pass Rush: -2.8

    2009:
    722 snaps
    Run Def.: -3.0
    Pass Rush: -5.9

    2008:
    838 snaps
    Run Def.: +14.8
    Pass Rush: -7.0

Based on these numbers, it's clear to me that he's getting better and better as a pass-rusher, but his run defense is getting worse. At this point he's basically a poor man's Cullen Jenkins.

Heard a few eagles fans more upset about losing Patterson than Jenkins....

Great to have him on board, hope he has a good and productive year. Great depth and rotation for Fewell to play with.

While I appreciate PFF and the posting of these numbers, I do not think it is fair to draw the conclusions you did simply because of the revolving door at the defensive coordinator job for the Eagles.

lets see what he does in this defensive scheme, I am excited to see the on feild product. they dont need a superstar at every position, everybody just needs to contribute and do their job.

Plus you have to take inconsideration the Eagles went to the Wide 9 the past two years and the defensive line is more based off of pass rushing, and you can see his numbers excelled in those two years and run defense dropped so much...So basically it's tough to judge those numbers.

Not many snaps last year. Was that due to injury?

I think the lines on both sides are more a unit or success or failure than an individual player's success or failure. That we now have two guys from the Eagles may not have been an accident.

You have to take system into account. Being better at run stuffing while being moved into the Wide 9 system (which sucks for run defense) tells me that Patterson is going to be one of those low-key signings that is really going to help solidify our DL.

Had brain surgery in August 2012 to correct tangled blood vessels that were causing him to have seizures.
