It's an option isn't it? Try to force them to pay him what he wants.

If he sits it out he is right back as a RFA next year. He has to play be available for (I believe) 10 games. The problem with that is he is viewed more negatively by other teams as a product.
If they can't agree on a deal, I'm sure he'll sign the tender and play out the season.

Don't think he will. Just also don't think things are as smooth as some want to make them out to be. Hope the FO doesn't cave in and give him $10-12 million a year.

Cruz and Condon know they aren't going to get their asking price which is why a player's asking price is irrelevant. That is especially true with RFA because were he to hold out, he loses credit for a season and is RFA again in 2014.

His least profitable option is taking the tender but he can do that at significant financial risk should be be injured while playing under the tender. If he does play under the tender and has a monster year, they can then franchise tag him is 2014 unless Condon gets them to agree not to apply the franchise tag in 2014.

As John Mara has said, they will get a deal done and they won't break the bank to do it.

Didn't they think they had a deal with Smith just before he signed with the Eagles?

They won't I'm sure. First of all...we don't have the room.
Secondly, we could have him play for the tender, and then franchise him next year which gives us 2 years for around $12 to $13MM. With a favorable cap hit this season.
JR seems to know what he's doing on this one.

No, they made Smith and offer and his agent told them they were looking elsewhere. Cruz can't sign with any other team this season. That ship has sailed

If Cruz does sign his tender, trade him immediately as there is no chance he will be a Giant after the 2013 season.
They can franchise him in 2014.

So them what's the hold up? If he has no options and the team is staying put why not sign the deal?

What's the rush? As usual, you and I will just agree to disagree.
