Hakeem Nicks Willing To Play Out Rookie Contract

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...ookie-contract

Excerpt: "While restricted free agent Victor Cruz's contract talks with the New York Giants have dominated the offseason news, Hakeem Nicks' camp has been eerily quiet entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Nicks' silence has been by design. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access" on Monday that Nicks is in no hurry to negotiate with Giants and essentially wants to approach the situation as the "anti-Cruz." More than willing to play out his contract, according to a person informed of his thinking, Nicks will allow the Giants to come to him with a proposal.

Two NFL general managers opined to Rapoport that the longer Nicks waits, the more nervous the Giants likely are to be about their No. 1 receiver testing the open market.
Should the team be concerned about losing Nicks, though?" Read more...

This would be Nicks' best strategy as he needs to put in a full, healthy season to get the payday he deserves.

Well it's his only choice really. They don't have the money now and he was a non factor last year.

He could approach them for an extension, but as has been said before, he's got to pick up his numbers and quiet the durability issue.

It depends i would if he is willing to do a 4 year 25-28 million dollar extension right now I would be very tempted to do it. If he has a 1200 yard 10 TD year he is going to get 10 million a year from someone.

Actually this could help them with their current money issues. If they sign him to an extension and front end a chunk of it as a bonus, there could be relief this year under the cap. That would however put a big potential hurt out there in the future if Nicks is unable to stay healthy. This is a tough call for both sides.

Definately wouldnt say he was a non-factor. He had his share of plays when healthy and helped Cruz out by taking the double coverages.

    I don't think non-factor but less impact.
