Giants' Special Teams' Coach Breaks Down Kicking & Punting Miscues

    http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2...g_miscues.html

Excerpt: "It's been another week to forget for the Giants' special teams.

A punt was returned 89 yards for a touchdown. A field goal was missed -- Josh Brown's second straight.

And on coordinator Thursday, Tom Quinn came in to break it all down.

    First, on Weatherford's directional punting:

"Well, we always want to try and encourage pinning them to the sidelines," he said. "That’s what we try to do with our punt game. He’s getting better. He showed it better in practice. He just has to do it in a game."

    On Josh Brown's missed kick:

"His head came up. You see how he followed through," he said. "He wasn’t getting through it. He just has to trust himself to get through it."

Quinn said he sees that as an easily fixable mistake.

"His head came up. You see how he followed through. He wasn’t getting through it. He just has to trust himself to get through it." Read more...

footballoutsiders says the giants have the 2nd worst ST performances they have ever tracked through 4 weeks. Only team worse than the 2010 Chargers.

If we recall, the chargers had both the #1 ranked offense, and the #1 ranked defense that year, but went 9-7 because of how horrific their ST unit was.

In somewhat unrelated news, going by schedules/team records thus far, giants have had the most difficult schedule in the league so far. And the remainder of the season drops to the 21st most difficult

i made the thread that we had to face 4 top defensive units and that the defenses we faced have made several offenses this year look putrid. Carolina, Denver, KC, and to an extent even Dallas, have all been effecient Defenses. Denver is the 1 ranked d, KC has the most sacks, Carolina was best vs the run iirc, and Dallas led the league in turnovers before this past week iirc.

we are a strong october team combined with the schedule getting much easier in terms of Defenses we'll face=4-4 by end of october.
