I just reviewed the
NFLN Replay of the DAL at NYG Week 17 game. Two division rivals who know
each other, sparring off in a winner takes the division and a #4 seed,
loser goes home game. The NYG take the division with a 9-7 record. Here
are my thoughts after watching this game:
-In watching this game I saw several players that should have Falcon
uniforms on. I had Hynoski in my 2011 mock draft. Looks like he might
end up being a solid FB. Now we have to deal with Ovie's injury and
contract demands. Many draft mockers said we should draft JPP. Most
mockers said he would be a bust. Jeez. TD could have drafted Dez Bryant
and Hakim Nicks with ONE pick each. He also could have kept Laurent
Robinson and Boley. Wow.
-The NYG defense was stout against run. They also picked up 6 sacks and 7
hits on Romo. Mostly with a four man rush. They won the turnover battle
2/0.
-Their offense put up 31 points and over 400 yards. They couldn't really
run the ball but their Oline shut down every thing DAL threw at em in
the passing game. Eli stayed clean and put up 300+. They won the
explosive play battle 6/2.
-The CowGirls made hella mistakes. Missed tackles, bad angles, muffs,
penalties, overthrows, missed sacks, you name it.They looked like
keystone Cowboys. Kinda like we did against CHI, SEA, GB, NO1, HOU and
TB1. That's what killed em.
-I couldn't believe how similar the Giants are to the Falcons on both
offense and defense. The passing game is almost identical. A lot of
short drops with quick slants, curls, ins and outs. EmDiggy might have
been right though. I think we might be a little more vertical than them.
We run a lot more, flies, posts and corners. Gotta check the YIA.
-Call me crazy but Eric Weems looks like Cruz. I still think buddy could
get to that level. Can we please throw him some balls? He is just as
fast, just as shifty and is way stronger. He caught a TD in the 2009
game in NY. I'm pretty sure he can do the salsa. He did the Michael
Jackson against GB in 2010.
-Their defense is a Smitty/BVG clone. 4-3 base. Lot of cover 2. Rush
four, five at the most, drop six or seven and play your zones. If you
get that front four blocked, you can make some plays. There is no doubt
in my mind we can block five and let Roddy, Julio and HD rip their DBs.
-I see some differences in these teams though. We try to establish a
smash mouth run game. They run a lot of shotgun delays. They play a
little bit more man on the corners than we do. We are way more athletic.
On probably every level except DLine. We need to take advantage of
that. They really look shaky on STs. That might be another area we can
exploit.
-I am confident we can stop their run game and make Eli pass the ball. I
noticed that he is good at sliding in the pocket and gets most of his
yards on those plays. But every time he slides, he slides right. Put Abe
at LDE or run a delayed blitz on that side with WillyMo and we can shut
that BS down in a hurry. I think one of them guys can bushwhack him on
that side like Chauncey did in his rookie year.
-If it were me I would no huddle their defense every time they get the
wrong DLine on the field. When DAL went no huddle in the third, their
Dline got gassed and disappeared. They sub a lot. We could gash some of
their units with the run and others with the pass. Think BAL 2010 or TEN
2011. Please run some Inspector Gadget plays on em like Andy Reid did
on us in PHI last year. Catch their pass rushers biting on junk. Go
smash mouth with Turner in the second half, then hit Julio or Roddy on
play action to end the game.
We went up there in 2009 and forced an overtime. Even after terrible
execution. If we execute for two quarters we will lose. If we execute
for three quarters we can beat em in a close game. If we execute for
four quarters we will blow em out. Trust me.
Let's hear it boys....
