Giants' Free Agents: TE Bear Pascoe Does It All For Big Blue

    http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2...ll-trades.html

Each day until Feb. 2, the final day of the 2013 NFL season, we're going to break down a Giants free agent. We'll analyze his season, his future and the odds of him re-signing with the team this offseason.

    Excerpt: "Position: Tight end
    2013 Stats: 12 catches, 81 yards, 0 touchdowns
    '13 salary: $892,500

Bear Pascoe is the Giants’ jack-of-all-trades.

Pascoe, a fifth-year pro, is a tight end by trade but has also been a valuable contributor at fullback. He can catch. He can block. He can play special teams. His versatility gives the Giants flexibility because his presence on the field doesn’t dictate a run or pass play.

That versatility was never more evident this offseason and in training camp when he filled in at fullback for the injured Henry Hynoski.

“We’re very confident that Bear, no matter what role we place him in, he does an outstanding job,” coach Tom Coughlin said when Hynoski suffered a devastating knee injury last June. “Bear has had opportunities to play (fullback), B tight end, Y tight end and he’s always done a nice job.” Read more...

We need to aspire to much than Bear. If he is back next year, he will fill the same needs, all reasonably well but we will have failed again to upgrade a player who is easiliy upgradable. We have Robinson and Donnell taking up space when either or both should have supplanted Bear by now.

This is not meant as a slap at Bear, just another slap at the FO for not being able to find a better TE than BP in the draft.
No one remembers who came in second.

Time to let Bear off in the wilderness, hopefully he doesn't find his way back.

He's actually pretty terrible at everything, he's gotten so lucky that other guys got injured near the end of camp and he knew the system. Absolutely zero chance he is a giant this year. His cap hit at the vet min isn't worth it

He's quality depth. Something we lack overall...

Pascoe can't be counted on to be much of a weapon, especially in the blocking or pass catching department. But he's shown more than Travis Beckum ever did, which isn't saying much. Hopefully, with McAdoo on board the Giants can finally raise the bar for what they demand of the TE position.
One of these teams is not like the others

Wouldn't you think that the JPP of tight ends should at least be quality depth by now..............?

BP hasn't been a viable player in this league the last two seasons. DC for our opponents must laugh out loud when they see this guy on the field. He's the poster child for what's wrong with this team. They should have been able to find a better TE in the late rounds of most drafts and keep whiffing. To pay him almost $900,000 for his talent level is obscene.
