Mock Draft 1.18

    • Round 1 -

    • Donta Hightower, ILB - Alabama... Anchored the greatest defense is CFB history

    • Michael Floyd, WR - Notre Dame.... Pipe dream, but WR draft spots are unpredictable. Guys like Mohammed Sanu and Kendall Wright are emerging as top wideouts... you never know.

    • Vontaz Burfict, ILB - Arizona State... go ahead, call him "immature", then watch him call you an ambulance.
    •
Round 2 -

      • Coby Fleener, TE - Stanford.... Big guy, smart, athletic, fast... Monster pick up for big blue.

      • Kevin Zeitler, OG - Wisconsin.... Mauler... paved the way for Monte Balls successful season.

      • Doug Marin, RB - Boise State... Built like Ray Rice... had a monster bowl game.. a huge need.
      •
Round 3 -

        • Nick Toon, WR - Wisconsin.... Over the middle type of wideout.. tough and NFL bloodlines

        • Chandler Jones, DE - Syracuse... Osi and Tuck are injury prone and their contracts are expiring soon. Jones has good bloodlines. His brothers are "Bones" Jones (UFC Champ) and Arthur Jones..DT for the Ravens.

        • Bobby Massie, OT - Ole Miss.... Monster dude and KMac needs to be replaced.
        •
Round 4 -

          • Leonard Johnson, CB - Iowa State.... Physical corner that play extremely well against Okla St. CWeb and Prince are all we got. Must get depth.

          • Ladarious Green, TE - Louisiana Lafayette... Specimen... runs like a wideout and can really stretch the field. Needs to add weight and develop his blocking.

          • Vick Ballard, RB - Miss St..... Showed some real ability in the bowl win vs. Wake Forest. Hit the hole fast and then ran away from defenders. Better speed then people thought.
          •
Round 5 -

            • DaJohn Harris, DT - USC... I watched a few games this year and this guy really shined. Doesn't get a lot of love from the media, but he was quick off the ball and made some plays in the backfield.

            • Tony Dye, S - UCLA... need to add some depth after Phillips and Rolle.. Grant will not be back and they need a guy to compete with Sash.

            • Ryan Lindley, QB - San Diego State... I like David Carr as a backup, however I think the Giants should groom someone younger to learn the playbook.
            •
Round 6 -

              • Mike Martin, DT - Michigan... anchored a solid Michigan defense and was a consistent producer. Stout against the run and did not get bullied around. Giants will need depth.

              • Marc Tyler, RB - USC... Goal line specialist... if Jacobs is released after this season, Tyler has the size to be a punishing back. He also has average speed which will help.

              • DeQuan Menzie, CB - Alabama... overshadowed by Dre Kirkpatrick but his kid can play. Did a great job shedding blocks from WR's and making open field tackles.
              •
Round 7 -

                • Olivier Vernon, DE - The U.... Quick off the ball. Had a good Sophemore campaign, but was suspended for a few games this past season. Could be a steal.

                • Nick Provo, TE - Syracuse... Caught everything.. He was the majority of the Cuse offense this past season. Good speed and would be another weapon for Eli.

                • Gerell Robinson, WR - Arizona State.... ASU's offense was awful... There 6'8" QB couldn't throw and was totally inaccurate... but Robinson put together a great season and has excellent.
                •
De quan Menzie would be a steal in the 6th round, yea, he's really good in run support i could see someone picking him in the 4th or 5th rounds. Just getting Coby Fleener in this draft would make me happy. .

RD1: obviously I love who you have at the top.
RD2: Like the Fleener and Zeitler picks. I really like Martin as well, I didn't list him on mine because I'm not sure he's worth a 2nd round pick. I wouldn't be upset though. He has potential to be a gamechanger.
RD3: Wouldn't be unhappy with any of those picks except Massie
RD4: Ballard I like, other guys aren't quite on my radar. Green would be great as a receiving TE, just not sure how he is as a blocker. Seems like he needs to bulk up to me.
RD5: Tony Dye would be a decent pickup.
    RD6: Dequan... yes please!
RD7: Do we get a round 7 pick this year?If so, Provo and Vernon would be awesome gets. I also like Jerrell Harris this late as an OLB. He really improved this year. Is great in run support and has good cover skills (saw him lining up on Reuben Randel in the BCSCG). Great special teams player. Didn't play much at Alabama because of formations and depth but was a 5 star out of high school. Played a lot in the BCSCG game and will probably put up good numbers at his pro day.

    Re: Mock Draft 1.18

I love hightowers intangibles but there are a few negatives.

    1. Torn ACL is the last thing we need
    2. He's a 3-4 ILB
    3. Coverage questions

Hightower has the intangibles to be a fantastic 4-3 ILB.... In this age of football, ACL repairs are like a common cold. Im not all that concerned, just look at Willis McGahee. His knee injury is the worse i have ever seen.

Even if the Giants were to grab Fleener with their first round selection this year, I wouldn't be disappointed. However, I feel that this TE class has depth and they wont waste their first rounder on one.

People know his talent and based off his performance in the bowl game, he will not last past the third round. With that said, if he performs well at the combine, he will shoot up to the late second or early third.

The latest mock on WalterFootball has the Giants taking Audie Cole in the 3rd, and the Ravens taking Martin with the very next pick (29 and 30 respectively). Just imagine Ray Rice and Doug Martin in the same backfield... damn...

This is actually how I think it will happen. I think Martin will go earlier than people are expecting. If we landed him, I'd be stoked, but in the scenarios I keep going through, I don't see us getting him without trading... and I don't think we would trade. I have put Pierce as a 3rd round option for us but if him and Martin are both available, Martin would obviously be the guy. I just don't think he'll last til the end of the 3rd round and I don't think we would take him with our second pick.
