The New York Giants lost here in November but had been 4-0 ATS in four previous visits to face the San Francisco 49ers.
Their strong recent play and that history of west-coast wins has the
Giants as just 2.5-point opening line underdogs on the NFC conference
final odds menu. They finished the year on a 6-2 ATS run in road games
and will need that trend to continue against a team that has been a
point-spread covering machine at home.
The 49ers upset the New Orleans Saints in the divisional playoff,
scoring late in a see-saw battle. They are now 10-0-1 ATS in their past
11 home games, although they are just 1-3 ATS in their past four games
as a favorite.

The Niners’ offensive line has been surprisingly stellar this
season, considering it has two new starters at center and at right
guard. The unit has allowed only 11 sacks on the season, but more
importantly has performed when needed the most, paving the way for
comeback wins against the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions.
However, the line does have a weakness; that weakness is at both tackle positions.
Veteran Joe Staley and second-year pro Anthony Davis
have been solid in the running game this season, but have flunked when
it comes to pass blocking – together they have allowed seven sacks and
32 quarterback hits and hurries (According to Pro Football Focus). Both
tackles have sometimes been overwhelmed when facing some of the leagues
top pass rushers, such as Demarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys and Kyle Vanden-Bosch of the Lions. They both will face big challenges on Sunday.
The Giants have one of the most feared pass rushing units in the league. The trio ofJason Pierre-Paul, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck,
have a combined 18 sacks and 42 quarterback hits and pressures on the
season (According to PFF). This means the Giants’ pass rush can attack
defenses relentlessly without bringing many additional blitzers.
