Sleazy NY tabloids attempt to exploit Giant fans 4 sales

While the Giants attempt to exploit weaknesses in the Patriots defense (a good thing), the local newspapers are trying to exploit human beings for profit in the most despicable fashion.

In this case, they take a quote from Tom Brady and use it to get the sales up. But what is easily the most contemptible thing of it all is that they are equal opportunity exploiters. They will as easily attempt to lure any given Giant player into saying something bold or a little arrogant in order to place that in the headlines.

The result of the quest for bulletin board material has become a newspaper sales game by newspapers and for newspaper sales.

It's the witnessing of a car crash or seeing a human being get shot, that baser part of human nature that is being exploited by sleazy reporting by Gary Myers that result in nothing other than the players interviews drying up to the point that everyone is soon going to sound like Bill Belichick.

In the past, there would be a media with a little modesty and reserve. Now, even taking quotes out of context are becoming fair game.

Get a clue sad sacks of the dying profession. Everybody has access to expose you now.

I assume you're speaking of the Daily News with Gary Myers. NY's media market is the one of the only locations where printed media not only survives, but flourishes. So no, it's far from a dying profession.

I don't think buying the NYDN is contributing to an exploitation of human nature.

LOL. No, haven't hit the bottle. Let's try it another way, from the Giants' players' point of view. Why would you say anything to Gary Myers or Ralph Vacchiano (see: 2007), so they can blow up what you say out of proportion and stick it on the full back page?

What you might be missing is that this Brady quote was filling the back pages of the Daily News and the Post today. It was a nothing quote. On NFL Network, Kiwi was asked about it. He responded that he read beyond the headline into the story and implied that there was nothing there.

So, basically these media guys are playing a game of "gotcha" with the players. Its like: "How can we trip you up to say something you don't want to, so we can plaster it for the whole world to see?"

Why would a player a) want to talk to these guys or b) if they are required to by the league, say anything of substance?

No reason. The result of these distortions are to dry up the comments from players that give true insight into what they are feeling and/or something about the game to come.

56, here's what he's saying, "The media is blowing **** out of proportion (in this case Brady saying he hopes there's more than the 25k that showed up at the pep rally at the victory party after the SB) to sell more newspapers. He also finds it contemptible that the media will do the same thing (take things out of context, ask leading, provacative questions, etc.) to Giants players, again all in the pursuit to sell more copy. </P>


But, the main thing he's saying is that he has no clue how the media works; that newspapers are a business, and especially when it comes to sports, which he fails to see as entertainment (which it is), but as actual, real-to-goodness news (which it isn't, save for the economic impact of sports), that newspapers will exploit whatever they can to sell more copy, be it taking a quote out of context or asking leading questions. Essentially, he's saying that he's never read any newspaper anywhere ever in his life and finds that practice disturbing.</P>
