Thumbs up Rob Manfred tries to "one up" Roger Goodell and slowly destroy baseball:

This is by far the worst rule change I have ever heard and he better not even think about bringing it up to the MLB level to shorten games...

Might as well just make it 2 strikes and your are out and 2 outs an inning. And enough about this dumb pitch clock. It wont be good for baseball. You can not rush a pitcher who isnt ready to throw a 99 mph fastball at a batter.

Major League Baseball plans on testing a rule change in the lowest levels of the minor leagues this season that automatically would place a runner on second base at the start of extra innings, a distinct break from the game's orthodoxy that nonetheless has wide-ranging support at the highest levels of the league, sources familiar with the plan told Yahoo Sports.

For any inning beginning with the 11th inning, the Federation Team at bat shall begin the inning with runners on first and second base. The batter who leads off an inning shall continue to be the batter who would lead off the inning in the absence of this extra-innings rule. The runner on first base shall be the player (or a substitute for such player) in the batting order immediately preceding the batter who leads off the inning. The runner on second base shall be the player (or a substitute for such player) in the batting order immediately preceding the runner on first base.

As a person that played baseball from 2nd grade all the way up until I was 18, this potential rule change is pretty bad. I get that they want to speed up the game. The only way to do that without totally destroying the game is to raise the strike zone and for the umpires to call more strikes.

Seems like there are more games that go into numerous extra innings than in the past. My guess is that there is less discipline in getting on base and moving that baserunner in the new era. This rule tries to cover that deficiency up. Regardless, there are many issues that arise with numerous extra innings, for the fans and players.
Another solution, which could end all contests within a reasonable time frame and showcase what the league can do, is to have a Home Run Derby to settle the game in the 11th inning.

This destroys the whole base of the game " good pitching will always beat good hitting". bad Idea.

If they would just make the batter stay in the f-in box and put the pitcher on a clock it would help too. And maybe stop letting relievers face one batter, at least during the reg season.

Or, if you dont want to watch a game because its long and "boring you", turn it off and fly a kite.

You cant mess with rules like this. It would be like a completely new game, and personally, I would probably stop watching all together. Im a huge baseball fan, so this crap really is annoying. The game is fine. You dont need to change it to fit the ADD generation. Do you see golf changing their rules because it is slow and "boring"? No. It is what it is. There should never be a runner (s) on base to start an inning to make it end faster. Thats stupid

I respectfully disagree about a home run derby. I think that shortening the season would be more beneficial to the fans and the players. I would go as low as 120 games. Get rid of interleague games and shorten the divisional games from 19 to 14. Long extra inning games are just baseball. They don't happen often enough IMO to warrant drastic changes.

    +100

Absolutely on board with a shorter season. Not shorter games.

One rule change I would like to see is for DHs. There should be a rule where you can not be a DH for more than 1 or 2 games in a row. It would make players have to really play baseball instead of being just a guy who swings a bat hard. You shouldnt be able to be a DH for 140 games a year. Just seems dumb to me.

I agree with most of what you are saying. I would not mind a reliever having to face at least 3 batters before coming out. The whole lefty righty match up them just to get through one late inning is brutal for most watchers. I don't mind it, but I do hear the complaints when watching the games at a bar or restaurant.

It's all about the money. If the game is slow and boring people don't watch it.
