Excerpt: "Giants brass has yet to discuss the plan to sign ex-Jets quarterback Geno Smith, but it sounds like Smith may have had a strong reference in his corner.
During a recent appearance on SNY's Timeout with Taylor Rooks podcast, Smith raved about his "big brother, little brother" relationship with new Giants wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who spent the last two years with Smith on the Jets.
Smith, who is expected to sign with the Giants this week, said the two have been close ever since Marshall cold-called him back in 2015 after joining the Jets.
Smith told Rooks he was at a bowling alley in Los Angeles when he got "a call from a random number." It turned out to be Marshall, who had been traded over from the Bears, and they started talking.
"We had a really good conversation, and from that moment I left just really impressed with the guy," Smith said. "Then we started working together down in Florida, building our relationship there, then went to the Jets, starting building it there."
Smith was in line to be the Jets' starter in 2015, but then The Punch happened, followed by Fitzmagic. Marshall and Smith never got to collaborate much on the field, but Smith says their relationship remains strong." Read more...
