Eli’s career is peaking and the Giants need to continue to have weapons around him. Also, the defense is what this team is historically built on, so they need to continue to get play makers. With that said….

Donta Hightower, ILB – Alabama…. Anchored arguably the great defense in CFB history. I went back and forth on Hightower or Burfict and chose Hightower due to his SEC experience and his leadership skills. <o

Coby Fleener, TE – Stanford….. The next “new generation” TE to come into the NFL. Along the lines of Jimmy Graham and Gronkowski, where TE’s are getting bigger, faster and stronger. This kid is the real deal and could be an instant difference maker. I like Dwayne Allen a lot, but I think Fleener could be a better red-zone and deep threat than Allen. <o

Devon Still, DT – Penn State…. Guy is an absolute terror and was an unstoppable force this past season. He will be dominant on our defensive line and with Bernard and Kennedy probably not returning, the Giants could use a guy like this to put into the rotation.

Chandler Jones, DE – Syracuse… Love this guy. He is in all of mock drafts and this kid is going to be a special player. He’s big, long arms and does a great job in pursuit. Osi is a nearing the end and Tuck is getting older. Giants need to continue to put the pressure on the QB. <o

Kevin Zeitler, OG – Wisconsin…. Perfect fit for the Giants offensive line and a big need for the Giants. This kid is a mauler and would be an instant starter as a rookie.<o

Trumaine Johnson, CB/S -… versatile guy that dominated the 1-AA level. He can play CB and Safety for us and contribute to the hybrid role that Grant use to play. Could fill in at safety and corner. Fantastic looking player.

Dwight Jones, WR – North Carolina… Big time target. His game reminds me a lot like Nicks, but this kid is bigger and faster. He is a nice deep threat and the Giants need to continue to have pieces around Eli with the way he is playing. <o

Michael Egnew, TE – Missouri…. If the Giants don’t address their TE need in round 1 with the two elite TE’s in this draft. They will probably wait until the later rounds to address the TE position and Egnew would be a great fit for the Giants. <o

Victor Ballard, RB – Miss. State…. Giants need to get back to power football. Jacobs is most likely gone and Bradshaw cannot stay healthy for an entire season. Ballard is a sleeper in this draft. Miss. St. has no offensive threat outside of Ballard, so defenses focused on stopping him. He still produced great numbers in the dominant SEC. <o

Levy Ad****, OT – Okla State…. Beatty has been disappointing since being drafted, K-Mac might be hanging up the boots and Brewer is an unknown. Giants should add some depth and competition to the O-Line. Ad**** is a solid player with some good upside. <o

DeQuan Menzie, CB – Alabama… Decent size and a physical corner, which is something that the Giants like to draft. Playing alongside Kirkpatrick overshadowed the season that Menzie had. He is a gamer that does a great job shedding WR blocks and making open field tacklers.<o

Marvin McNutt, WR – Iowa… super productive receiver out of the big ten. For his size, he does a great job getting to the open spot in the field and has secure hands. He could be a nice sleeper WR prospect in the draft and provide Eli with another weapon.

Daniel “Boom” Herron, RB – Ohio State…. Monster junior year for Herron. Coaching change, the loss of this QB and top WR target and being suspended, really affected him. Teams geared towards stopping him and by the time Ohio State got warm, the season was over. Herron could be a nice addition to the Giants power offense. <o

Ryan Lindley, QB – San Diego State… the loss of Vincent Brown really hurt Lindley this past season. However, his numbers weren’t that bad. Giants need to get a young guy to groom as the back-up for Eli. Carr has been nice, but he’s 34.<o

Nick Provo, TE – Syracuse… Don’t be surprised if the Giants draft two TE’s in this draft class. Ballard and Beckum are both done, so they will need to be replaced. Provo catches everything and would help the passing game even more.

Blair Walsh, K – Georgia… Tynes will be a free agent after next season and he is making a million +. Save the money and use it towards other postitions. Walsh has a monster leg.<o

Donte Paige-Moss, DE – North Carolina… Generic freak. Based of pure athletic ability and potential, he will be drafted. Giants have an amazing locker room and the best DE roster in the league. This kid could be a great player, but he needs leadership and coaching to keep him focused. Giants locker room and staff can do that. <o

Eric Page, WR – Toledo… third down machine. Catches everything thrown at him and could provide some nice competition to the WR corp with Jernigan and Barden. <o

My only problem with the Hightower pick is that its either

A) at 6'4, 260, he won't have the physical tools to play MIKE in Fewel's 43. I suppose he COULD play SAM, but then why spend your 1st on a 2.5 down player? (assuming they go to one nickle or another on half of 3rd downs)

or

B) He DOES have the physical tools to be a 3 down 'backer in Fewel's 43, at which point he doesn't make it to 32 (I just don't see anybody with the kind of athleticism to play 43 MIKE (particularly a Tampa/Cover-2 MIKE) at his size, falling THAT far).

I honestly think that if Kuechly, Burfict and Hightower are all gone by the time we pick in the first round, the Giants will not draft an ILB in this draft. They will use Goff, Herzlich and Blackburn next season.

I don't see them drafting Burfict period... But that's besides the point.

I do agree with that though. I actually think that they'd be fine with Goff, and that Herz could take over the SAM spot from Kiwi (assuming Kiwi moves back to the line or goes back to his 2010 Joker role)

You do know you only get to pick once each round right? But I like the choices.

#1) I'm with my fellow poster here in that I don't think we go with Hightower in the first. We are stacked (numbers wise) at LB (both MLB and OLB) and Hightower doesn't impress me as a guy who will play well in a 4-3 scheme. He's more of a classic MLB which is becoming a dinosaur in this pass happy league and opposing offenses would salivate to run a no-huddle and keep him trapped on the field.

I think we go Fleener here as BPA and a need for us (no way Devon Still is still around when we pick in the first imo).

#2) I'm not crazy about your RD2 choices. I like Chandler Jones but don't think he'll drop that far in the second. We're stacked at OG and need an OT prospect (would prefer Zebrie Sanders here) to take over for KM and push Brewer. We already have 3 potential stud CBs in CWeb, Prince and T2 so I don't think we go CB here.

#3) The only guy I like here is Egenew if we don't go TE in the first. Ballard reminds me of Shonne Green (meh) and would be a reach here (will probably be around in the 4th or even 5th rounds) and Dwight Jones is like Hakeem Nicks ... without the ability. Not sure I'd be happy with a tall receiver with average speed who gets beat up for his lunch money constantly.

#4) I like McNutt but I think he falls to the 5th after the Combine (lack of acceleration/burst). But I wouldn't be opposed to taking him in the 4th if his stock is buzzing. He's not going to be a home run hitter but a really good possession guy. I don't like Menzie ... Giants like size and speed and Menzie doesn't have either. I could see them picking him here to add depth but I think McNutt gives you more upside and a potential starter at the #3 receiver spot. I like the Ad**** pick but not here ... he'll be around in the 6th more than likely.

#5) Herron doesn't excite me (lack of burst through the hole and only moderate at catching out of the backfield) but doesn't turn me off totally either. Eventually we'll need to look at a QB I agree but I just can't pick a QB with a straight face until Eli shows a hint of not being able to start a game. Provo is a decent pick here if we still haven't gone TE yet. Not sure we go for a second TE in the draft considering we have Pascoe and Christian Hopkins is starting to get some buzz on the PS.

#6) Meh on Walsh (but I'll say that about every kicker in the draft) and accuracy > big leg at the kicker position. And Tynes won't be a super FA imo. I like Paige-Moss here a lot ... exactly the type of project the Giants like to play with and his character issues aren't insurmountable (good find here). I like McNutt over Page for what you want him for (and Page is slated to go higher then the 6th).

From a personal standpoint I'd like to see the Giants concentrate on TE and Oline (RT specifically).

I have actually seen Ballard and Menzie play regularly so I know they are gamers. Menzie outplayed Dre Kirkpatrick (the #2 CB in this draft) in 2010 (his first year, fresh off an achilles tear) and beat out a 5 star starter in 2011. He was also a starting CB for the #1 pass defense in CFB and played for possibly the best DB coach in the country. Getting him with the last pick of the 4th round would be a great get.

I said all along that Sanders was gonna get embarrassed senior week. He did. I'm trying to get more pumped about the guy because I think he does have potential, but I don't think he's a guy that can play as early as some think he can. If we get him, hopefully I'm wrong.

Hightower, Fleener, Still, C Jones, Zeitler, Egnew, T johnson, Ballard, Menzie, Ad**** and Lindley are some guys listed by the OP that I also have had an eye on. While I like Ad****, he's sort of a tough guy to say will be great or won't be. He's looked really impressive when I've watched him and could be a great NFL RT. He's only given up like 1 sack all year and I believe played both LT and RT, but Oklahoma State always seems to get rid of the ball really quickly so that's a bit deceiving. Either way, 4th or later I think he would be a solid pick with a lot of upside.

As for our depth at corner, I believe Ross and Thomas are both free agents... and we also need to see how TT recovers from his injury.

Yeah I kind of assume Ross will be gone and we'll resign T2 to a small contract like we did Kiwi.

He would most likely split time with Prince at the #2 spot until he got his feet under him again.

Ross I assume is gone (I don't see the Giants giving him anything but token money).

I think that if Kuechly is gone the Giants won't pick a LB in round 1. LB's are not a huge need when you have a dominant DLine.

We need to focus on OLine, TE, and RB.

Outside of Snee the Giants are weak at that position. Boothe is serviceable at best and Petrus is mediocure. If Zeitler were to fall to us, this would an instant upgrade. He is a nasty player that will start from day one. T2 is recovering from a second ACL surgery on the same leg. This does not bode well for his future and the Giants cannot afford to “hope” for the best.

The fact that he was able to produce those numbers, while opposing defenses game planned for him is impresses. I totally disagree with your Dwight Jones getting “beat up”. He was an impressive player and has a huge ceiling.

T2 is in no way a speedy corner. He is a phenomenal tackler with great instincts. Players can look faster, if they have a high football IQ. Ray Lewis has always been “slow”, but his football IQ is off the charts so it makes him look faster. McNutt is going to be a solid pro WR. Great hands, decent speed and a very good route runner.

He is patient enough to wait for a seam and in the fifth round, could be a serviceable backup. I think it is highly likely that the Giants will draft two TE’s in this draft. Hopkins is really a no-namer and if a talent like Provo falls to the fifth round, they will consider. Don’t pick up a QB until there is a “hint”? That means the Giants are going to not be prepared for the what if and we turn into the 2011 Colts. No thanks!
