Was one of my favorite players growing up.
Played a role on the Mets World Championship team back in the eighties, after helping make baseball relevant for that short time in Montreal.
Brain cancer, dead at the age of 51.

RIP indeed. Now he can hopefully be without the pain and suffering that he went through at the end of his life. The world is certainly less bright without "The Kid."
[] He was an AMAZING ball player to watch when I was growing up. Man Keith Hernandez started breaking down over his death on SNY.

AMEN. Prayers for the family.
he was incredible as an Expo, stopped paying attention when he went to the Mets
When I was 8 years old i fell in love with BIG BLUE and the METSIES - Gary Carter - The Kid was a bog part of that love - Thanks Gary for being a boy hood hero of mine. I am told you were an even better person. interesting to hear the straw's comments today - wish he could've lived more like Gary - but he messed it up. Obviously carter was a true leader and had afine character. Im glad his suffering has ended but sad to hear of his death.
RIP Gary Carter he played the game the right way!
